🐶 furry friends

We love furry companions and we know they can bring huge joy to community life. To keep things safe and happy for all humans and animals on site, we ask all pet owners to read and agree to the following Pet Policy. This policy mainly applies to owners with dogs, but does apply to other pets too where relevant.

1 awareness

We think it’s important you know…

Froomies is located on a peaceful 80-acre farm. The land is a mixture of pasture, wildflower meadows, woodland (with a stream), agriculture (we grow a crop of miscanthus biofuel) plus we have the Farmhouse garden and co-living courtyard. We are new to the site, and the animals, and hope you will help us shape this Pet Policy as we continue to learn.

We keep the following farm animals on the land as treasured pets (the ‘Farm Animals’):

• 14 chickens

• 8 goats

• 5 kune kune pigs

• 2 guinea pigs

• 1 cat

The chickens, ponies, goats and pigs are usually kept in paddocks, however their fences have large gaps in them so they regularly end up roaming the site freely (until we put them back!). The paddocks are also super easy for dogs to get into. When they are not in the paddocks, the Farm Animals live in the animal barn.

The Farm Animals are not used to having dogs around. In addition to your pet, there will most likely be other dogs and cats on site too, with other froomies. We therefore suggest we handle this thoughtfully to ensure that all animals can co-exist together happily. We have a maximum limit of 5 dogs staying at Froomies at any one time.

Both the Farmhouse and cottages have a mixture of both hard floor and carpet, therefore we ask owners to confirm that all pets are house trained. We know accidents happen however, and we keep cleaning supplies available for you to use in these instances.

2 pet perks

We plan to keep spare pet towels, blankets and equipment on site. We also have a washing machine dedicated to pet laundry.

3 owner responsibility

Your pet remains your full responsibility at all times during your stay.

• Having valid pet insurance is highly recommended.

• If your pet causes disruption (excessive noise, aggression, stress to others), we will need to discuss how to manage this.

4 farm animal safety & no-go areas

To ensure both the Farm Animals and your pet stay happy, we suggest:

• Dogs stay away from all farm animals and animal paddocks.

• No meeting, sniffing, chasing or greeting Farm Animals.

• Dogs to be on a lead at all times around the Farm Animals (including the driveway, co-living courtyard and directly outside the Farmhouse).

• Dogs do not have access to any animal areas or barns.

• No pets allowed in the swimming pool or hut tub.

There’s an abundance of space onsite, so there are plenty of dog friendly spaces to walk your dog off-lead. We realise dogs may get excited about the space and may run off if they are having so much fun, so please do keep them close to you. We know a number of dogs have gone missing in the area, so please do keep a close eye on your dog, even in any off-lead areas. See the map below which indicates wonderful places to walk your pooch:

1. Through the woods (after you’re through the gate from the pony paddock) and out onto the other side, up the hill (with a beautiful view) and around the land on the other side of the woods.
